Ahead of Thanksgiving, the design world is alight in festivals, fairs, and design weeks. Highlights include the World Architecture Festival, which comes to Amsterdam this year; Design Weeks in Austin, Nashville, Lima, and Dubai; and, of course, the highly anticipated Salon Art + Design in New York City. Read on for the design events that should be on your radar in November.

Southern Style Now

Open to both the public and the trade, Southern Style Now brings together the best design coming out of the South. The celebration features a wide range of events, from embroidery workshops and antiques tours to book signings, panel discussions, and architecture tours, as well as the annual showhouse influenced by traditional Southern living.

Austin Design Week

The third edition of Austin Design Week will celebrate the city’s local design community through a series of studio tours, workshops, talks, and other events. Designers can enter the Design-a-thon to work on finding solutions to Austin’s biggest problems in the hopes of winning a prize.

MAD Ball

The Museum of Arts & Design’s annual ball promises to be a fabulous art-filled gala, gathering a who’s who of New York’s art and design scene. This year’s event will honor Bottega Veneta, Cadillac, artist Nancy Rubins, architect Annabelle Selldorf, and Sugar Hill Capital, a real estate investment firm that supports New York’s artistic community.

Lima Design Week

When: November 6–18
Where: Lima, Peru

Held annually since 2014, Lima Design Week organizes a series of events that celebrate Peruvian art and design through temporary exhibits, dance, theater, and musical performances. Events will take place at the Centro Cultural Ccori Wasi on the campus of Lima’s Universidad Ricardo Palma.

DCOTA Fall Market

The Design Center of the Americas will host its annual marketplace featuring work by some of the industry’s leaders.

The Salon Art + Design

When: November 8–12
Where: Park Avenue Armory, New York City

The highly anticipated art and design fair returns this fall to the Park Avenue Armory. Fifty-six galleries will be in attendance this year, including New York’s R & Company, Milan’s Nilufar Gallery, and Cape Town’s Southern Guild, which is a leader in contemporary African design. Expect to find everything from classic antiquities to Art Deco, midcentury modern, and contemporary pieces.

Nashville Design Week

When: November 8–15
Where: Nashville, Tennessee

This citywide series of events aims to valorize Nashville’s burgeoning design community, giving local designers a chance to showcase their work. A series of workshops, talks, tours, and exhibitions will bring together designers specialized in fields ranging from fashion to interiors.

Made in the South Weekend

Garden & Gun magazine hosts this annual celebration of Southern artisans, now in its ninth year. Festivities include a kickoff concert with Nashville musicians Amanda Shires and Aaron Lee Tasjan, a marketplace of products by award-winners and finalists at the magazine’s headquarters, an award dinner, and Sunday brunch and shopping at the Dewberry Hotel.

Vienna’s Imperial Palace will play host to this huge fair for art, antiques, and design with contributions from Viennese and international galleries. Expect to find glass, furniture, decorative objects, chinoiserie, handcrafts, sculpture, plus modern and contemporary art.

Boutique Design New York

One of the country’s fastest-growing trade fairs, BDNY will gather more than 8,000 interior designers, architects, and owners together with 750 manufacturers of design for the hospitality industry. This is the place to find the latest design elements for hotels, spas, cruise ships, restaurants, and senior lifestyle interiors.

DFA E-Commerce Summit

When: November 13
Where: Traditional Home Magazine, New York City

Hear from design industry leaders at the Decorative Furnishings Association’s E-Commerce Summit. Melody Lee, former Global Grand Director of Cadillac, and John Bricker, Creative Director of Gensler, will discuss the new luxury experience and how to design for it.

Vienna Art Week

Vienna’s art scene comes out to play during this weeklong festival, which features talks, exhibitions, film screenings, concerts, parties, and a popular open-studios day. Highlights include an architectural tour of the construction site at the Austrian parliament, a Granny Café operated by Grannies Against the Right, and a guided tour of the Egon Schiele centenary exhibit at the Belvedere.

Dubai Design Week

With a program 20 percent larger than last year’s, Dubai Design Week hopes to cement the city’s place as the region’s leading center for design. More than 230 events will unfold across the design district known as D3, including a new exhibit called “UAE Design Stories” and a Design for Good initiative. The Jameel Arts Centre opening will coincide with the festivities.

Salone de Mobile Milano Shanghai

When: November 22–24
Where: Shanghai exhibition center

The famed fair makes its way back to China for the Shanghai edition, sparking an exciting dialogue about the intersection of Italian and Chinese architecture and design. SaloneSatellite Shanghai returns as well, showcasing projects by 35 up-and-coming designers and students, the top three of whom will present their work at SaloneSatellite in Milan.

Us by Night

When: November 22–24
Where: Antwerp, Belgium

Though not strictly focused on architecture, this three-day design and creativity festival offers a unique interdisciplinary experience. The lineup includes performances, talks, and a night market complete with a food court, a flea market, arcade games, and even tattoo shops.

World Architecture Festival

When: November 28–30
Where: Amsterdam

Like the Oscars of architecture, the World Architecture Festival doles out some of the profession’s most prestigious prizes every year. The three-day event will take place in Amsterdam and will feature addresses by keynote speakers including Sir David Adjaye, Jeanne Gang, Rem Koolhaas, and Li Xiaodong. This year’s festival will be the largest one to date.

Inside World Festival of Interiors

Sister to the World Architecture Festival, Inside celebrates all things interior design. Over 500 finalists will present their projects for critique in the hopes of winning an award in categories like Bars & Restaurants, Hotels, Residential, Retail, and Creative Re-use.
